6 Things You Need to Do Right After You Get Your Real Estate License

Updated: Nov 29, 2023

So, you just conquered the real estate license exam—CONGRATS!

It's a significant milestone, and I know the excitement mixed with a dash of uncertainty about what comes next.

Don't worry; I've got your back.

I'll break down six crucial steps you need to take right after getting your real estate license. Think of it as a roadmap to navigate the initial stages of your real estate journey. Let's dive in!

1. First things first, shop around for a broker.

Now that you just got your real estate license, it's time to explore options: cloud-based or brick-and-mortar—considering fees and splits. Don't fall for promises that vanish after joining. Do your homework.

2. Sign up with a local association for MLS access and more.

Fees vary, so be prepared to invest, but the benefits, like exclusive platform access, can be game-changers. I joined the Miami Association of Realtors and unlocked a treasure trove.

3. Secure your E-Key from Supra through the association,

This app on your phone opens Supra lockboxes, vital for property previews or client home visits.

Get the authorization code from your association, set it up, and you're good to go.

4. Dive into contracts.

Now that you're a full-fledged agent with a real estate license, you need to know where to find and pull up the essentials—purchase and listing agreements. Attend local association, MLS, or brokerage trainings to confidently fill out these forms.

You never know when an opportunity will knock, and you'll need to act swiftly.

5. Attend local association, MLS, or brokerage trainings.

Familiarize yourself with contracts, especially the frequently used ones like purchase and listing agreements.

You might be caught off guard, and preparation is key to not sounding like a total newbie.

6. Unrelated but crucial—get cozy with Canva.

It's a free website (though upgrading unlocks more features) and will be your marketing best friend.

From flyers to social media posts, Canva's got your back. Create an account and start experimenting.

Ready to put that new real estate license to work?

These steps might seem like a lot, but trust me, it's better to tackle them early. The real estate world moves fast, and being prepared will set you on the path to success.
